Japanese Puppetry: Japanese Punch and Judy! – 10th May

Japanese puppeteers Ito Shiro and Katami Eimei perform three different segments – 1) Punch performed in English by Ito Shiro; 2) Kugutsu by Katami Eimei, and 3) Snow White, performed under Ito Shiro.

Where: The Little Angel Theatre, 14 Dagmar Passage, Cross Street, London, N1 2D.

“Mitsuko Delivers” – Japanese Film – 11-24th May

“Mitsuko Delivers” is Yuya Ishii’s newest film and is a comedy which tells the story of a woman who’s alone, broke and pregnant. Her parents think she is in the USA living a good life when in fact she is in Tokyo searching for herself and which eventually leads her to the working-class alley where she grew up…

Yayoi Kusama – Talk by Francis Morris – 24th May

At this event, Frances Morris – Curator and Head of Collections (International Art) – at Tate Modern will venture into and explore Yayoi Kusama and her work.

Japanese Production of Shakespeare’s “Cymbeline” – 29th May

Japanese director – Yukio Ninagawa – produces Shakespeare’s romance tragedy “Cymbeline”. Ninagawa’s previous works which he has directed include ” Hamlet”, “Coriolanus”, “Musashi”, and “Twelfth Night”. Cymbeline is a part of the World Shakespeare Festival taking place in London – produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company for the London 2012 Festival.

Bunkasai (Fundraising Event) – 11th March

‘Haiku Prelude – Haiku Kami’ series, features twenty seven paintings, inspired by traditional and contemporary Japanese and western haiku!!!


3.11 A Sense of Home (Film Screening) – 12th March

This is a series of films all 3 minutes and 11 seconds concerning the theme of “home”. This is by award-winning director Naomi Kawase!

Japanese from scratch: Let’s eat Japanese food!!! – 28th March

This is a new Japanese language and culture workshop aimed at those who are interested in learning Japanese but haven’t started yet, or those who have just started learning this wonderful language!!! You learn many things in this workshop such as how to use chopsticks correctly!

Yayoi Kusama 草間 彌生 – Until 5th June

Yayoi Kusama 草間 彌生 is truly a unique Japanese artist! She is known for using a lot of dot patterns in her work!! I have actually been to see this exhibition!! I went with my Japanese mother!! hehe!! This exhibition was incredibly interesting!! A must see!! I won’t say anymore as so not to spoil it!!! So go and see it while it is still on!!!
