Ibuki” is a very modern, unique and new Japanese sushi restaurant which opened in Maida Vale (London) and this is also a restaurant that one will definitely return to after having experienced the Ibuki experience. Ibuki is run by Mr. and Mrs. Hoshino who are a very lovely married couple and who are also very friendly and inviting.

Ibuki is originally a sushi restaurant; However, apart from the sushi – such as the “Maida Roll” and the “Vale Roll” sushi – there are other dishes that are available such as salads, tempura, teriyaki, miso soup and much more. Now that the winter season has descended upon us all, just for this bitter chilly winter period, guests can order a spicy nabe! Ibuki’s nabe is amazing! The nabe contains a wonderful flavoursome stock which is slightly spicy but not too spicy. It cooks together with various vegetables, fish and meat such as salmon, oysters, and chicken and sesame balls which are a combination that compliments each other. The taste of the broth eaten together with the vegetables, meat and fish are like the perfect marriage. Plus, the nabe is big enough to feed five or maybe even six people, therefore it is the perfect place for families, even couples and groups of friends to go to. Anyone and everyone can go there!

When it comes to dessert, you are surely going to love Ibuki’s take on this Italian classic. This dessert is made in house by Mrs. Hoshino; and before it is even consumed, one will be entrapped by its stunning beauty. The dessert is a tiramisu but with a Japanese twist. Why? It’s Japanese-y because it contains Maccha (Green tea powder). Maccha is mixed into the cream mixture so that it adopts a very green complexion which looks lovely in contrast to the dark alcohol soaked cake like element in the dessert. There is a generous amount given in relation to both components and one will not be left thinking that there wasn’t enough given. Then we move onto taste. The taste is extraordinary and is just as lovely as the presentation. There is just enough alcohol present and it is not at all overpowering. It balances rather than invades the dessert. I was impressed by Mrs. Hoshino’s skills!


“Ibuki” is a fabulous Japanese restaurant and one which those who go there will want to return to.  There are a variety of dishes on offer as well as a variety of different drinks and desserts. Finally, there is a special spicy nabe that is only available for this winter season so why not go to “Ibuki!”. Just remember that if you want to eat this spicy nabe then you will need to order it before going to Ibuki! Reservation is necessary! Please remember! lol.
